George Parker & Patrick Rooney denied all-UNSQUASHABLE Welsh Open final

George Parker and Patrick Rooney were unable to make it an all-UNSQUASHABLE final at the 2018 Welsh Squash Open being staged at the Rhiwbina Squash & Racketball Club in Cardiff.

Rooney was beaten in his close-fought 56-minute semi-final in four close games by top seed Peter Creed of Wales whilst Parker was beaten in an equally competitive 55 minute semi-final by fellow Englishman Richie Fallows.

Spectators were treated to two equally epic encounters with Rooney contributing to a fantastic match which ebbed and flowed but ultimately fell to Creed. The skill, athleticism, fitness and control was superb from both but after a brutal 56 minutes Creed emerged victorious to progress through to his home town final. He will take some stopping and will have the crowd behind him. Patrick played a great game and it was on a knife-edge for him at the end.

As expected, Parker’s semi-final against Richie Fallows full of raw power, great retrieving and the odd outrageous winner. Richie pulled ahead by two games only to turn his ankle and receive and injury time out. Parker fought back such as the champion he is and took the third game but Richie regained his composure to take the match and inflict the first defeat for George on the Rhiwbina courts.
