Iker Pajeras Bernabeu wins Jersey Open

Iker Pajeras Bernabeu defeated Jaymie Haycocks 9-11 11-2 11-3 11-3 to win the 2017 Jersey Squash Open and claim a second successive Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour title since joining UNSQUASHABLE.

The top seeded Spaniard took to the second seed, 12 year his senior, after Haycocks had survived three five-game wins on the way to the final. However, his English opponent showed no signs of fatigue as he claimed the first game 11-9.

Iker regrouped to take charge from the outset of the second game, playing determined squash at a relentless pace to which his opponent had no answer with Pajares claiming the next three games for the loss of a handful of points.

“I’m over the moon to win a second title this month,” said Pajares who has now claimed both PSA World Tour titles he has contested since joining UNSQUASHABLE.

“I knew I had to make it hard for Jaymie at the start, he had a lot of squash in his legs. After losing the first I really focused, tried to play fast and low, and felt very confident in my game and my shots. Now it’s time for a rest before my next tournament in Switzerland. It’s been a great event, thanks to Nick Taylor, Jersey Squash and all the sponsors for putting it on - Jersey, the Club, the Tournament, everything was perfect and I’ll be back!”
