Jahangir Khan remembers helping Pakistan beat Australia in the 1981 WSF World Team Championships

This year’s Men’s World Team Championships in Marseille promises to be a great event and I’m looking forward to following all of the action this week after an exciting day of opening matches yesterday.

I was fortunate to play in six Men’s World Team Championships and still fondly remember my first championships in 1981 which was staged in Sweden and which Pakistan won. We had a strong team and with Maqsood Ahmed (pictured) and Qamar Zaman as my teammate, we safely progressed through all of our group matches in Gävle against the United States, Canada and Singapore before moving to Stockholm for our final pool matches where we beat Egypt, Scotland and hosts Sweden.
In the final, also in Stockholm, we beat Pakistan 3-0 with Maqsood Ahmed beating Greg Pollard and Qamar Zaman beating Glen Brumby in five games whilst I beat Steve Bowditch.
Great memories!
