Jahangir Khan remembers the 1987 WSF World Team Championships when Pakistan beat New Zealand

The 1987 Men’s World Team Championships were sponsored by ICI Perspex and held in London and alongside myself, Pakistan were represented by Jansher Khan, Umar Hayat Khan and Qamar Zaman.

We won all of our pool matches 3-0 against Sweden, West Germany, Norway, Greece and Malaysia and beat Singapore (3-0) and Australia (2-1) in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.

In the final, staged at the spectacular Royal Albert Hall, we beat New Zealand 3-0 – Umar Hayat Khan beat Stephen Cunningham 9-5 9-2 9-2, Jansher beat Ross Norman 2-9 9-0 8-10 9-0 9-6 and I beat Stuart Davenport 9-5 9-1 9-0.

The Royal Albert Hall was a truly spectacular venue for squash!!

More great memories!
