The Englishman, who was awarded a Wild Card for the Professional Squash Association (PSA) M100 World Tour event, defeated Pan American Gold Medallist Miguel Angel Rodriguez of Columbia 12-10 11-6 11-4 in the biggest surprise on the opening day of main draw action and will play the German No.1 on the all-glass NetSuite Challenge court staged at the spectacular Justin Herman Plaza, San Francisco in front of San Francisco's Oakland Bay bridge and Ferry Terminal.
