James Willstrop bows out of Wimbledon Open in semi-finals

2016 champion James Willstrop bowed-out of the Wimbledon Club Squash Squared Open in the semi-finals to Mathieu Castagnet of France.

Seeded two for this year’s event, Willstrop played some of his signature long-reach-and-drop shots against his charismatic French rival but was unable to progress beyond the fifth seeded Castagnet who ultimately proved too strong in a high-quality 63-minute semi-final.

Willstrop recovered from 0-2 down to take the third game, but ultimately Castagnet’s fast-paced aggression and error-free play saw him win wear down the tiring Englishman in the fourth game, to take the match 15-13 9-11 11-7 11-6.
