Joel Makin Beats Top Seed To Reach Australian Open Semi-Finals

Joel Makin recorded a stunning 11-7 11-7 11-2 victory over top seed Paul Coll to progress to the semi-finals of the 2016 Australian Squash Open Championships being staged at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre in Melbourne.

The World No.82 from Wales will today play third seed Abdulla Mohd Al Tamini after a dominating straight games quarter-final victory over the defending champion from New Zealander, ranked No.31 in the world. Joel’s spectacular win also ended Coll’s fourteen match unbeaten winning streak which had seen his rival win three recent Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour events in his native New Zealander.

Today’s semi-final will be the first time that Joel, aged 21 years-of-old, has reached the penultimate round of a PSA M15 World Tour event.
