Joel Makin & James Willstrop progress to 2nd round of Channel VAS Championships

Joel Makin and James Willstrop both progressed to the second round of the Channel VAS Squash Championships being staged at St. George’s Hill Lawn and Tennis Club in Weybridge, England.

Welsh No.1 Joel Makin overcame Raphael Kandra of Germany 7-11 11-3 11-7 14-12 in 64 minutes whilst James Willstrop defeated Omar Abdel Meguid of Egypt 11-9 11-6 11-5 in 32 minutes.

Fellow UNSQUASHABLE player and wild card Charlie Lee fought bravely against Scottish No.1 Greg Lobban before eventually bowing-out of the Professional Squabs Association (PSA) World Tour Gold event 11-7 13-15 11-5 11-9 in 62 minutes.

Makin will play defending champion and World No.1 Mohamed ElShorbagy in the second round, whilst Willstrop will face New Zealand’s former champion Paul Coll.
