Patrick Rooney crowned British U23 Open Champion

Patrick Rooney defeated Nick Wall Junior 11-4 14-12 11-5 in the final of the Carter Jonas British U23 Open Squash Championships at the Roehampton Club in London to be crowned British U23 Open Champion.

A truly entertaining final for the large crowd at the prestigious Roehampton Club in London showed that both players have a big and bright future in the game with the three year age difference and Rooney’s greater experience on the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour proving decisive.
Rooney dominated the opening exchanges, controlling the high-paced tempo and making his opponent work hard as he won the first game 11-4.
The second game proved closer as Nick Wall Junior started going for more attacking winners which resulted in Rooney making more errors. Nick Wall Junior battled back to 10-10 and missed a chance to take the game 11-12, but Rooney remained calm and countered to take a decisive two game lead.
Rooney approached the third game with greater focus and from 2-2 increased the tempo to win the game 11-5 and record an impressive victory.
