Todd Harrity, Joel Makin & George Parker win on day one at U.S. Open

US No.1 Todd Harrity made winning start to the FS Investments U.S. Open Squash Championships as he downed Australian N.1 Cameron Pilley 4-11 7-11 11-6 11-8 11-5 on day one of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour Platinum event taking place at Philadelphia’s Drexel University.

Harrity made it a night to remember as he claimed his biggest ever victory on the PSA World Tour with a 3-2 win over World No.23 Pilley. Harrity, the World No.48 from Wayne, completed a brilliant fightback from two games down to defeat the Australian and will line up against training partner and World No.1 Mohamed ElShorbagy in the next round.

“Obviously he is just coming back from injury so I noticed he wasn’t moving well,” said Harrity following his win. “But sometimes that’s the hardest thing to cope with because it’s something else to think about and distract you from just playing. I wasn’t really feeling my shots and I was trying too hard to expose his movements, but I’m really proud that I didn’t let my nerves get the best of me and ground it out to get the win."

Fellow UNSQUASHABLE player George Parker overcame World No.35 Mazen Hesham in five games, 8-11 11-3 11-8 8-11 11-5, to set up a second round meeting with Tsz Fung Yip, whilst Joel Makin beat Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi of Qatar 11-5 11-4 11-5 in just 39 minutes to play Mathieu Castagnet of France.

Josh Masters missed-out on joining Todd Harrity, Joel Makin and George Parker in the second round after being unable to progress beyond Cesar Salazar of Mexico.

Todd Harrity, Joel Makin and George Parker will however be joined by fellow UNSQUASHABLE players James Willstrop and Sarah-Jane Perry in the second round of the leading PSA World Tour event in the USA - James Willstrop will play third seed Tarek Momen of Egypt whilst eighth seed Sarah-Jane Perry will play Nada Abbas of Egypt.

Second round action gets under way at 12:00 local time (GMT-4) on Sunday October 7, when 2017 winners Ali Farag and Nour El Tayeb begin their tournaments as they aim to replicate the form that saw them become the first married couple in sporting history to lift the same major sports title on the same day last year.

The action will be shown live on SQUASHTV (Rest of World), Eurosport Player (Europe only) and DAZN (Japan).
