After finishing a five-game battle against Alan Clyne of Scotland, UNSQUASHABLE Ambassador George Parker showed no signs of slowing down as he dispatched joint-third seed and World number 25 Daryl Selby in three games. The second game saw a comeback from Selby to draw level at 9-all, but George held on to his nerve to close out the game 11-9.

The third game saw George claim a strong lead at 6-2, and throughout the match held onto that lead, despite a few heated arguments with the referee. Match-point was filled with impressive retrievals by both players, but George Parker finished the match with an impressive winner, claiming the first semi-final spot at the National Championships.

James Willstrop claims the second semifinal spot as he claimed a 3-0 win over Declan James. In the second set, James Willstrop set up a strong 10-3 lead and looked set to close out the game, but Declan James saved five game balls before Willstrop could close out the game 11-8. The third set saw Willstrop pull away with a lead after being 3-all at the start, and closed the game to win 11-5 after a total of 43 minutes.

The final match of the day saw Joel Makin claim the last quarterfinal place after a see-saw battle with Alan Clyne of Scotland. The first set went comfortably in Joel’s favour with a quick start off the blocks. Second set saw Clyne with the quicker start, and a comeback from Joel late in the set was not enough to stop him from dropping the set 11-8. The final two sets pushed both players, known for their physicality on court, with Makin coming out on top winning 3-1 in 53 minutes.

James Willstrop and George Parker will now meet each other in the semi-finals tomorrow, while Joel Makin will seek out a revenge match against Englishman Adrian Waller.
