Rising English squash star and UNSQUASHABLE brand ambassador George Parker will help unveil new squash court & renovated clubhouse at Leicestershire Tennis and Squash Club on 29th September 2018.
As one of the oldest rackets clubs in the world, the Leicestershire Tennis & Squash Club is celebrating its 140th year looking to the future with a number of ambitious improvements to its facilities. Along with a complete clubhouse refurbishment and tennis court renovations which included the addition of 6 more tournament standard artificial clay surfaces to its show courts; a brand new competition standard glass-backed Squash court is nearing completion and will be open for business at the end of the month, increasing the racket facilities to 18 tennis & 3 squash courts.
Generally better known for its world ranked tennis members, squash at the club has seen a meteoric rise in recent years and amongst its growing membership boasts the current county champion and Club Coach Luke Parker and rising star of the world game, George Parker.
To mark the official opening of the new squash court, an exhibition is planned for the 29th September. The exhibition will celebrate squash with a number of matches, which include a light-hearted game between a top national junior and the current county champion. The main attraction however, will be a serious contest between world squash goliaths – the Clubs own George Parker and Declan James. Both young English players have started the 2018 season with a bang, with George Parker (22) being runner-up in the European Individual Championships in Austria, beating a top 30 ranked player for the first time on route to the final, and Declan James (25) already winning a professional title in Nantes, overcoming former world number 1 James Willstrop for the title. With both players in such superb form, the exhibition promises to be a memorable way to mark the opening of the new exhibition squash court and set the scene for the future of squash at the Club. In keeping with the Clubs relaxed and friendly atmosphere, players will join in an informal Q&A following the matches, with food and drink served from the newly refurbished fully licenced bar.
