UNSQUASHABLE Ambassadors James Willstrop and Joel Makin faced each other at the AJ Bell British National Championships after both having come through 3-1 in their semi-final matches. Regardless of the result, this was set to be an exciting match between a legend and a young star of the sport.

First set of the match saw Joel start off strong, eventually opening up a 10-4 lead. James was not about to go down without a fight however, pulling back 6 game balls to bring the game into a tiebreak. There was nothing Joel could do to stop the comeback by James as he claimed the first set 12-10. Joel would then come back with a vengeance in the second set, claiming an 11-0 win through a combination of winners and unforced errors by James.

The third set was a far more even affair, but as Joel held game-ball at 10-9, it was James who rattled off three points in quick succession to claim the third and a 2-1 lead. The fourth was similar, as both players were neck-to-neck and James held championship ball at 10-9. However, Joel was not about to go down easy, pushing the game into a tie-break but was not enough as James closed out the match 14-12 in the fourth.
