The annual Canary Wharf classic began today with two UNSQUASHABLE World Tour Ambassadors playing in the first round. The tournament is famous for being one of the few on the World Tour to make use of the best-of-three format, in the hopes of encouraging faster paced matches.

James Willstrop featured in the opening match of the day against wildcard and Londoner Richie Fallows, and the match finished in just over 20 minutes with a masterclass from James, winning 2-0, 11-5, 11-6.

Joel Makin had a tough first round match against English captain Daryl Selby. A slow start put him 1-0 down, and a fight in the second saw him take the match to a tie-break. Unfortunately for Joel, he could not take the match to a third, losing 15-13 in the second.

James Willstrop will next play the Peruvian Puma, Diego Elias in the second round.
