Joel Makin, George Parker and Sarah-Jane Perry all recorded impressive second round wins at the FS Investments U.S. Open Squash Championships being staged at Philadelphia’s Drexel University whilst US No.1 Todd Harrity was unable to repeat his giant-killing act of the opening day of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour Platinum event and progress beyond World No.1 Mohamed ElShorbagy.

Welshman Joel Makin will take on defending champion Ali Farag for a place in the quarter-finals after he toppled Frenchman Mathieu Castagnet in 86 minutes 4-11 15-13 11-9 12-10. Fellow UNSQUASHABLE player and Rob Owen Academy stablemate George Parker defeated Tsz Fung Yip 7-11 11-5 9-11 11-6 13-11 and will play fourth seed Simon Rösner of Germany in the third round.

James Willstrop was unable to progress along with Makin and Parker following all defeat to third seed Tarek Momen of Egypt, however World No.8 Sarah-Jane Perry won her match on day two as she defeated Egypt’s Nada Abbas 9-11 11-3 11-6 11-8 and will play India’s Joshna Chinappa in the next round as she looks to follow up the Oracle NetSuite Open title that she won earlier this week.
