The biggest event of the year began last week and UNSQUASHABLE ambassador Joel Makin was looking to continue his momentum after recently reaching his first ever PSA World Tour Platinum Semi-Final. He’s shown quality this season and wants to continue in this fashion as he looks for more PSA success. He said in an exclusive interview on the UNSUQASHABLE Instagram page, his aim this season is to make the top 8 in the World and begin to consistently make quarter finals of Platinum tournaments.

He began the tournament with a first round match against rising young English star Richie Fallows. Makin was comfortable with a 3-0 win, taking the games 9-11 2-11 13-15, putting Makin in a strong position to move into the second round of the PSA World Championships.

In the second round Joel continued to play with quality as he took on Mohamed Elsherbini, who Makin was again able to overcome, taking the match 3-1. He won 3-11 11-6 9-11 12-14.

In the third round Makin met his match as he took on World no.6 Simon Rosner, who had also had a quality start to the tournament taking out two of England’s strongest players, beating Ben Coleman and Declan James in the first and second round. Makin showed drive and determination but this was unfortunately not enough as Rosner took a 3-0 win. However, Joel will not let this loss effect his winning momentum and will be more determined then ever to continue his form at future tournaments.
