UNSQUASHABLE ambassadors Joel Makin and James Willstrop both claimed their spots in the last 16 of the Tournament of Champions in contrasting fashion.

Joel’s upset against Diego Elias was undoubtedly the match of the day. Diego started the highly anticipated match by taking the lead 2-1, but Joel maintained his composure and kept his strong form to take the final two sets 11-6, 11-7.

Former World No. 1 James Willstrop started out his first tournament of the decade in style. Up against Scotsman Greg Lobban, James dominated the first set 11-1. The next two sets were much closer, with James coming through 11-9, 11-8 to secure a space in the last 16.

Iker Pajares Bernabeu faced former World Champion Karim Abdel Gawad in a bid to further his campaign. He started off very strong, taking the lead 11-3, and in the third set, managed to get game-point. However, Gawad was just too strong, and took the win in four.

Joel and James will meet in the next round for a place in the quarters on Monday.
