The opening matches of the day had Lwamba Chileshe in his first outing on the New Zealand senior team. Despite a few early nerves, he pulled together an impressive performance beating Singaporean Brandon Tan 3-0, 11-7, 11-6, 11-0.

Another young UNSQUASHABLE ambassador, Rory Stewart secured the top spot in the group for Scotland as he beat Steve Richardson in the all-Celtic with Ireland. After a comeback from Steve in the third set, Rory took the win 11-2 in the fourth.

The second matches of the day were not as great for home favourite and USA number 1 Todd Harrity. Playing against World No. 66 Dimitri Steinmann, he fell behind in the first game before levelling the scores at 1-1. However, he was unable to keep up with the momentum of the Swiss player, falling 3-1, 11-5, 5-11, 11-5, 11-5.

James Willstrop in the English clash against Nigeria was playing Sodiq Oluwatobi Taiwo, the World No. 324. After struggling a little in the first game, letting it go to tie-break, James became more comfortable in the next two, showcasing his many years of experience and winning 14-12, 11-7, 11-5.

In the last matches of the day, Joel Makin gave Wales the perfect head-start in their match against Canada. He was pushed by Canada’s Shawn DeLierre in the first set, before falling into rhythm to close out the game in three sets.

Final rubber of the night was played by Iker Pajares against Argentina, securing a whitewash win for Spain. He got the better of Gonzalo Miranda in just 23 minutes, winning 11-3, 11-5, 11-7.

Matches today will see Wales, Spain and New Zealand fight for a place in the quarterfinals, while Scotland and England have a Bye through to the last 8. The USA have failed the qualify for the main knockout draw and will wait for the winner of the tie between Singapore and Jamaica in the 13-23 playoffs.
