UNSQUASHABLE ambassador Yusuf Sheikh kept up his top form at the British Junior Open in his match against the joint-third seed from India, Yuvraj Wadhwani. Despite losing a tight first game in the tie-break, he came back to take the next three sets, winning 14-16, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8.
Yusuf will next face Muhammad Ammad of Pakistan in the semi-finals. Muhammad had previously beaten the top seed of the event, Jonah Bryant in the round of 16.
The other win on the board for the UNSQUASHABLE team came from Sean Murphy in the 33-64 playoffs. He beat Faazil Khan of Canada confidently in three sets.
Both other players in the Boys’ Under-15 lost in their matches today. Jack O’Flynn fell to American Drew Glaser, and Ryan Gwidzma lost to Alexander Broadbridge, both in four sets.
Harry Bloomfield in the Boys’ Under-13 found himself in a match against third-seeded Wong Lee Hong of Malaysia. Harry lost to Lee Hong but gave a good account of himself with a 11-9, 11-3, 11-9 score line. In the Girls’ Under-13 Charlie McCrone beat Emily Coulcher-Porter in three sets in the 17-32 playoffs.
Max Forster in the Boys’ Under-19 beat Seif El Shenawy of Egypt. He dropped a set after finding himself 2-0 up but managed to close out the game with an 11-4 win in the fourth.
Saran Nghiem faced off against recent Scottish Junior Open Under-19 runner-up, Lucie Stefanoni of the USA. After a very close first set, the match see-sawed between both players, with Saran closing out the final set with an 11-3 win.
